Reconstructive Surgery

The Division of Reconstructive Surgery is solely dedicated to all aspects of kidney, ureter, bladder, and urethra reconstruction. Fellowship-trained urologists use a multidisciplinary approach and work as a team with specialists in plastic surgery and colorectal surgery.

Best Candidates for Reconstructive Urologic Surgery
  • Urethral disruption injuries from pelvic fractures.
  • Recto-urinary fistulas after prosatectomy or pelvic surgery.
  • Refractory male urethral strictures.
  • Radiation-induced urinary fistulas.
  • Major bladder reconstruction- Mitrofanoff, neobladder, and MACE (continent enema).
  • Major ureter reconstruction - Boariflap Ieal ureter, and TUU.

    Reconstructive surgery on the urethra for complicated urethral strictures and fistula involves plastic surgical techniques using flaps of skin and other tissues. Deformities of the penis may also be corrected.

    The division holds special expertise in repair and reconstruction of genitals as a result of sports injury, automobile accidents and other traumas.
